Mankah's Story Last year, I did a one-week online training session with UNECA in her "Connected African Girls Coding Camp" in Yaounde. After this session, I searched for opportunities to continue learning to code but did not find any. Until a friend who attended the same session online informed me of this platform and sent me the link. I yearn to know more and gain a more profound knowledge of this skill.

🙋‍♀️ Mankah's Motivation

I am motivated to learn how to code with SheCodes to improve my family's living standards. As the firstborn, leaving a crisis-affected area (Bamenda) with my aged parents to Yaounde; a typically French-speaking zone has raised a lot of financial difficulties in sustaining our well-being. Previously, I did farming at home to meet our needs. But here, without a farm and seeking employment, the competition for job opportunities is enormous. So, to distinguish myself (as an English speaker) in the job market and to meet my dream of using technology in managing my agric business in the years to come, I will really be honored to have this lifetime opportunity offered me. Thank you for your time and kind consideration.

🎯

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
