🙋♀️ Edinah's Motivation
I recently completed a master’s program in Water Science, Policy, and Management at the University of Oxford, where I gained exposure to risk analysis of climatic extremes and their impacts on water infrastructure networks and economic systems at local and global scales. However, I observed a significant gap in such in-depth studies within sub-Saharan Africa, compounded by the lack of high-quality, accurate data for decision-making.
Additionally, I noticed that many female students from developing countries, including myself, had limited exposure to comprehensive quantitative data analysis, and none were pursuing research on AI dynamics in the African context. This realization has driven me to shift my career toward risk analysis and decision-making under uncertainty, with a particular focus on humanitarian contexts and the Horn of Africa—one of the regions most profoundly affected by climate change.
As part of this transition, I am actively upgrading my skills in R for data analysis. My mentor at Oxford recommended The SHE Code program as an excellent starting point to enhance my technical skills and join a like-minded community dedicated to addressing pressing issues in Africa.
