Gabrielle's Story My interest in coding seriously began in 2022, when I wanted to develop a ministry-based app that would provide free resources for children to know more about God regardless of their social and economic status. In a free online course I was in called 'Introduction to Technology' at the free faith-based institution I am in, we touched on the different fields one could venture into if they wanted to go into the technology field. I believed that when I learned that my professor, who is also a woman, was into technology, particularly where she did things like coding, project management, and product development, it really sparked something new in me. Prior to this, I was interested in the creation of websites and how to properly develop them, especially since I wanted a website for my ministry at the time. What started as just needing these things based on the vision I had at the time led to an interest in and passion for the technology field.

🙋‍♀️ Gabrielle's Motivation

My motivation for learning to code at SheCodes is their heart for life circumstances like mine; the compassion to create a foundation that not only helps women who are not able to both access and afford to learn the skill of coding in a proper manner, especially in an industry that is dominated by the opposite gender, is something that touched me. It gave me that boost to continue trying, regardless of whether I am in a situation that seems difficult at times. Before hearing about SheCodes, I had many concerns about whether I would be able to access opportunities in the field I wanted, but also if I would be able to access the necessary resources needed for my self-study as well as connect to an institution where I could properly develop my skills in coding in a professional setting to begin with. SheCodes gave me that encouragement and push that my self-studying does not have to be in vain, as well as that there was still hope in finding a professional institution where I could learn online, especially in regards to being a woman from a developing country that is on the spectrum.
