Janet's Story I have been privileged to meet with some good programmers in my life time. What they did with their laptops fascinated me and completely captivated my interest. Sadly though, all my pleas to them to tutor me fell on deaf ears as majority of them asserted that they had no time to for that due to their tight schedules. However, the last person I talked to advised that I watch as many YouTube videos on coding as possible. Yielding to his advice, I started watching coding tutorial videos on YouTube. But the more I watched, the more I realised that I needed a mentor to guid me and also explain somethings which were unclear to me. As many times as I watched the videos, my inquisitiveness and interest to code keept growing exponentially.

🙋‍♀️ Janet's Motivation

Computer programming and coding have been seen by many as an area for men alone. Due to this, a lot of women shy away from going into the field of coding. As a lady who believes that nothing is impossible to achieve not minding gender, ethnicity or cultural differences, seen by many as potential barriers; I love taking up new challenging tasks. I believe that your foundation (SheCodes) is the best platform where I can learn coding without being discreminated or looked down upon by male counterparts. I am convinced beyound doubts that for your foundation (SheCode) to bring up this initiative, it means that she has identified the huge gender gap existing in this area. Thus, she has taken it upon herself to train and bring in more women into this field-free of charge-to bridge the gender gap. Since it is also my dream to see that this huge gender gap is bridge, I believe that I share same goal as 'SheCodes' foundation, hence the motivation to learn coding under your tutelage. I'd be a happy lady if this dream of mine of becoming a female programmer/ Code Wizard comes into reality.

🤹‍♀️ Janet's Hobbies

During my fun time, I love surfing the net, reading and listening to news on new events and latest developments in the field of science & technology and world events. In addition to these, I also love to do scientific research and review academic papers.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
