Julia's Story My interest in coding grew from a curiosity about its potential and a desire for new challenges. Inspired by peers in the tech industry and attracted to its inclusive communities, I began exploring coding basics online. I'm drawn to the flexibility of a programming career, allowing remote work and global communication. Additionally, I see coding as a means to potentially transition into roles like project manager or Scrum Master, leveraging both technical skills and leadership abilities.

My motivation stems from a deep-seated passion for exploring new horizons and pursuing a career path that aligns more closely with my interests and aspirations. Despite having a successful background in organizing teams and managing businesses within the hospitality and tourism industry, I have always felt drawn to the world of programming and technology. Embarking on this journey represents a significant shift in my professional trajectory, as I transition from a role focused on people management to one centered around software development. I'm excited to dive into coding, starting from the basics and gradually becoming proficient to succeed in this field. With SheCodes, I feel that I can reach my goal, as I see a great support system for us, women, and I feel welcomed and ready to begin. In essence, my motivation for learning with SheCodes extends beyond acquiring technical skills; it represents a journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and the pursuit of a fulfilling career in programming.

I enjoy outdoor activities and spending time with my pets, whether it's going on hikes, trails or relaxing at the beach. I also have a passion for good food and love cozy evenings with my boyfriend, watching movies or planning our next adventure together.

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
