Mariia's Story My first interest in this profession came when I was graduating from high school. I did not want to destroy my interest of this profession by spending 5 years at the university with teachers that aren't eager with this thang. I understood that I would better take time for constructive training when I feel that the time has come. Over years, my interest has grown. Ukraine has become stronger digitally. Especially during the war. I have watched hackers and their power, IT specialists who hold and grow economy. So i feel fully ready to help my country that wat when it needs it.

🙋‍♀️ Mariia's Motivation

A few weeks before Russia invaded Ukraine, I was planning to take a coding course. I was choosing the coding language I want to learn, get info about the schools I want to go to. The war destroyed stability and significantly changed my plans. The war deprived me of my home and work, separated me from my family. But there is no time to despair. Every minute of my life is valuable and important for me and my country. I am glad to find myself in that state of mind where I sincerely believe in my dreams and possibilities. I want to develop myself in order to develop the country. And I know for sure that working in the IT field will be more than ever necessary when Ukrainians will take part in the restoration of our beautiful country.

SheCodes Foundation Mission

Women currently hold 25% of coding jobs and earn 30% less money than men. In most developing countries, more than 65% of women don't have bank accounts and cannot afford to invest in their education. Female refugees also don’t have many opportunities to invest in their education and improve their career horizon - they often work in unskilled, undervalued, and low-paid informal sectors.

SheCodes is here to help provide women in developing countries and women who are refugees with the opportunity to learn how to code for free. SheCodes offers a solid introduction to product development, product design and product management.
