Mpho's Story I was first introduced to coding in high school where we had a programme with a tech company in South Africa, to introduce coding to girls, haha yup, you guessed it - I went to an all girls high school. We were taught to create the flappy bird game. It was very unfortunate it was introduce during my last year in school and we never had any computer related subjects like computer applications technology offered as a taught subject. I pursed a degree in biomedicine and years later I started working at a start up tech in 2023 where I crossed paths with coding again. There is only One female Engineer in the entire team which sparked my interest in what she does. It was very interesting to hear how they speak in developer lingo like "I need to release a PR that needs to be approved". Working here reminded me of how much I enjoyed coding back then and now I want to code to improve my skills, fill a gap in society and overall improve my living conditions.
I have watched the 60 mins intro to coding and I love the fact that SheCodes revolves around females trying to bring light to a male driven industry. I love the fact that It Is flexible and has practical components. What is even more motivating is the fact that over 90% graduate the courses. I want to learn coding to better my career and better my quality of life.
I love to play online games, binge watch series, watch YouTube and TikTok videos on tech related content. I love learning new languages - currently learning Mandarin Chinese. I really enjoy nature too, so going out to the park and just having a picnic absorbing all the sun light and vitamin Ds I can get with a fresh dose of O2!
