Shruti's Story In sixth grade, I became curious about the new topics added to my computer book: QBasic and HTML. I couldn't understand the commands given, but after taking many lab classes, I became immersed in them. It gave me a sense of accomplishment, even if my shortest line of code worked. It gave me freedom to design with my own creativity and helped my mind fully explore and find the best possible solutions. My interest in programming continued to grow throughout high school, where I collaborated with a team of five other students to develop an application called "Covid Resource Tracker" for the NASA Space Apps 2021 project. I also got selected for a national open-ended research project, namely Incubate Nepal, which is a program initiated by MIT and Harvard alums. I worked as a web developer and student researcher to identify the gap between therapists and adolescents seeking mental health resources and then developed a web portal for a mental health support system. Being an enthusiast of programming, I believe that coding is becoming the new global language. With my profound coding superpower, I’m excited to create solution platforms for global societal problems and make a difference in the world.

🙋‍♀️ Shruti's Motivation

When I was first introduced to coding, I was immediately drawn to it because it was fun and challenging. As I transferred from Saint Mary's School to a co-educational high school, I realized that there were very few women in the field of STEM. Among the 80 students in my class, only 15 girls were determined to pursue a career in the STEM field. This realization fueled my desire to be a woman in STEM, particularly in CS. This disparity showed me the path to many competitions, hackathons, and summer camps. In addition to participating in the Math Quiz Competition, NASA Space Apps Challenge, and Intra-school Photography Competition, I have been a Kode With Klossy Scholar and Incubate Nepal’s Cohort in my gap year, which has once again strengthened my motivation towards this field. When I came across SheCodes, I was drawn to their mission of empowering women to bridge the gender gap in the tech industry. The organization’s goal aligns perfectly with mine, and I believe that by learning how to code with SheCodes, I can take a step closer to achieving my goal of becoming a successful woman in STEM and inspiring other women to do the same.

🤹‍♀️ Shruti's Hobbies

I enjoy exploring books of different genres, trekking, and cycling. The combination of these three brings tranquility to my being. Hiking to the top of the hill, reading books in the breeze, and cycling back from the hill give me peace in my soul.
